La Nucia Rastro & Guadalest

It was an early wake up call this morning (7.30!) for our day at the two Rastros' at La Nucia & Polop.

La Nucia first opened its doors in the early 1980's and it was a whole new world for the Spaniards! It's located on La Nucia industrial estate every Sunday just 15 minutes outside Benidorm on the CV70 road.

Just one mile away, also on a Sunday there is another market "Rastro de Polop". This is a huge market also. Some serious bargains are to be bagged here. Along with the usual market paraphernalia, here you can lay your hands on Box Brownie cameras, singer sewing machines, old fashioned typewriters, ancient farming equipment, local pottery and a whole array of interesting items!...

After we had bagged all the bargains we could carry ( of course wool WAS included!) we stayed on the CV70 road and travelled further inland to the pretty mountain village of Guadalest. It only has a population of about 200 inhabitants and is approx 25 kilometres inland from Benidorm.

Yes of course it is very touristy, and because it was Sunday plus it was a beautiful sunny day it was extremely busy, but very pretty none the less...

We decided to rest a while and take onboard some much needed refreshments & vittles..

Occupying one of the most stunning positions in Spain, this small village is precariously perched on the pinnacle of a granite mountain, giving us fabulous views across the valley carved out by the river from which the village takes its name...the Riu Guadalest...

The sun shone all day, it was so warm and the company was even better! It was a fantastic day...

After returning to our hotels, resting for a hour or so, shower, quick change, we were out again to eat our evening meal. The girls were eating their evening meal at their hotel so we decided to eat at Ray's1 Fish & Chip restaurant. Established in 1979 situated in the heart of Benidorms' "Old Town".

After meeting up with girls at the Hotel Gran Bali....

We decided to take a leisurely walk along the Poniente beach just to walk off all those calories!....

We walked for a couple of miles back into the Old Town and stopped for a drink at "Tapas Alley".

Tapas Alley is the locals name for a mouth watering concentration of Catalan or Basque style tapas bars....it's well worth a look, so interesting, so Spanish!

Back in the taxi to our hotels where we bade farewell to the girls as we are heading back to Mojacar in the morning, and they'll be on the beach soaking up those sun rays!!

We've had a fantastic weekend, with great weather, plenty of laughs, plenty to eat and drink and fantastic company....we've LOVED every minute. Thanks Bridget and Erica for your fabulous company..we'll so have to do this again...and soon!!!!
